April 29 Family Concert with Radius Ensemble Photos

Our April 29 family concert with Radius Ensemble was a fun and musical afternoon! The audience enjoyed string quartets from around the world, an introduction to the instruments in the quartet, and then got to try playing the violin, viola and cello themselves after the show! Thank you to the Concord Cultural Council.for sponsoring the afternoon and to Johnson String Instruments for loaning the instruments for the petting zoo.

CCC Reaccredited by NAEYC

CCC will be ringing in the new year having achieved a new, five-year term of accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children!  We received a 100% or 100+% rating in 8 out of the 10 standards assessed.

The NAEYC accreditation process includes an assessment of our program looking at 10 Standards and over 400 criteria, including Relationships, Curriculum, Teaching, Assessment of Child Progress, Health, Teachers, Families, Community Relationships, Physical Environment, Leadership & Management. We document how we meet the standards in portfolios using words and pictures to demonstrate the learning taking place in our classrooms.  These portfolios were reviewed by the NAEYC validators during their visit to CCC.  In addition validators observed in 50% of our classrooms and examined the policies and procedures guiding the work we do at CCC.

Below is an excerpt from the letter we received:

The NAEYC Accreditation of Early Learning Programs commends Concord Children's Center for its outstanding efforts in maintaining and renewing NAEYC Accreditation.  Your dedication and commitment to continuous quality improvement by re-engaging in the NAEYC Accreditation system is remarkable.

Concord Children’s Center has maintained NAEYC accreditation for more than 30 years!

Please join us in congratulating all of the Concord Children’s Center teachers and staff for their commitment and dedication in making sure that CCC continues to be a wonderful place for children and families.

Recent Articles About Early Childhood Behavior

At this time of year, parents often find their patience being tested by their young children. The two articles referenced below may be useful at this fun, but occasionally trying, time of year.

As the weather gets colder, and play moves indoors from outside, families may be wondering why children can’t play just a bit more quietly, perhaps a bit more gently. In this article on Big Body Play, author Frances Carlson reminds us of the importance of play, including rough and tumble play, to the development of the young child, and how parents and teachers can respond to this very important play.

Children testing boundaries isn't always easy for parents, but it's developmentally normal, as discussed in this article on testing boundaries from the Havard Graduate School of Education.
